The following video entitled “Book Launch 2.0” highlights the situation many authors face today — they’ve published a book but are expected to make all the social media and related PR happen all on their own. If you need assistance, contact me. I can give you a crash course in blogging, help set up and customize a blog and map out a reasonable social media strategy. Youtube videos, Twitter, Facebook… we can make all that happen.
I worked with author Robert Thorson when he decided to go on a Summer road trip to promote his book Beyond Walden: The Hidden History of America’s Kettle Lakes and Ponds. We sat down, reviewed the philosophy, technology and value of blogs.
How do blogs relate to people promoting you via social networks?
Why do newspapers care about and reference your blog?
How do you use blogs to develop a community of your readers?
Next we set up a free blog and reviewed all the features. Once the blog was set up we filmed an overview of the book for Youtube and took photos of Robert that matched the design of the blog and video. During his road trip I maintained a Google Map showing his progress (he phoned in his location) and monitored the blog while he was traveling.
Here’s one of the videos I filmed with Robert Thorson. Goal was to have a video at the top of the blog so people could get a sense of who Robert is and the concept of the book without having to read a word. You can see the blog here. Notice that while it is a free Blogger blog, it has been given a custom header matching the book cover and has a good photo of the author to jazz it up.
